Everyone always tries to guess where they will go on a mission. There were places I would like to go to and languages I would likely speak. In the end, before I opened my mission call I was thinking I would probably stay in the states for medical reasons. I figured I would not go to an ASL speaking mission, even though I had 3 semesters of it, but I also did not think I would go to an English speaking mission. Probably would stay on this side of the Mississippi so that got me mostly thinking either the Boise or Provo. Provo seemed unlikely because of all the family I have nearby.
The papers have been submitted and I have now been called as a missionary for the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My papers tell me that my assignment is to be the Pocatello, ID Spanish speaking mission. I report to the MTC on June 8th. When I first read that, my reaction was, "Wow, I was not too far off. It makes sense."
Pocatello is the mission adjacent to the Boise mission. The city of Pocatello is located at the very south end of my mission. It also contains BYU Idaho. There is a mountain range that stretches down the middle of Idaho from the north, my mission is pretty much everything to the east of that.
I am extremely excited have been called to this mission. From what I have heard, everyone loves that mission. I am glad I am not English speaking and I get to learn a very useful language. However, I am not exactly thrilled for the cold winter months that I will endure. This blog will be a site where my sister, Michelle, will keep you updated with the letters and pictures I send throughout my mission. I hope you join me in my adventure!
